ECV2 Triflux Engine

In 1986, Lancia developed the ECV2, or "Experimental Composite Vehicle". This incorporated a new type of engine, a twin turbocharged 600HP monster using only 1759cc displacement. Pictures of this powerplant are not that common, here are a few that I have collected over time.

A cutaway drawing of the ECV2 shows how the engine sits North-South in the composite body shell.

Sixteen valves of twin-turbo goodness! How would you like to have one of THESE?

This schematic shown the radically different architecture of the head. One exhaust and one inlet valve per cylinder are driven by each cam, the opposing cam drives the other pair.

This detail shows the overboost valve and one of the dual turbo/intercooler setups. The Triflux engine is Lancia's ultimate development of the Lampredi twin cam powerplant.
